Applications open for JPO to support CAFI, thanks to the French Government

Earlier this month, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) launched a call for applications to fill 16 Junior Professional Officer (JPO) positions across a range of International Organisations and duty stations; including a position with the CAFI Presidency in Brazzaville. Applicants have 4 weeks to finalise their submissions – closing on 22 February 2018!

The successful applicant will report to the UN Resident Coordinator and Representative Resident of UNDP (Republic of Congo) as well as the Head of the CAFI Secretariat, based in Geneva.

The objective: to support the governance structure of the CAFI Initiative, namely its Board of Directors, through the Presidency and the Secretariat, and to develop and monitor the Initiative's portfolio in the Republic of Congo and other CAFI partner countries (five other Central African countries).

The UNDP JPO Programme equips young leaders with the skills and experience required to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a positive difference in the world. A pathway into the world of development, the programme offers young professionals excellent exposure to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development while providing a valuable entry point into the UN system.

Title: Junior Professional Officer (UNDP)

Sector/Unit: Energy and environment

Duty station: Brazzaville, Republic of Congo

Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension for another year

Language requirements: English & French

Closure: Friday, 16 February 2018 (midnight CET)

Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme two years work experience are mandatory!

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Strengthen communication and relationships between CAFI Board members, their country-level representations, the Chairmanship and the CAFI Secretariat;
  • Supports the development of working documents for the Board of Directors;
  • Provides analysis to the CAFI Chair and Secretariat to consolidate strategic, policy and technical advice;
  • Supports the development of CAFI inputs in technical discussions on the development and implementation of REDD + Investment Plans and CAFI approved programs;
  • Contribute to the implementation of CAFI's communication strategy and lessons learned management inc. website and CAFI Annual Forum;
  • Support CAFI's commitment to mobilize public funding and additional private funding for implementation of commitments made by partner countries;
  • Support CAFI's monitoring and evaluation work.

Profile of qualification:

Education:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in economics, rural development, spatial planning, environment, agronomy, or equivalent area.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of remunerated professional experience in an equivalent field;
  • Experience in one or more countries in sub-Saharan Africa and if possible in the region of interest;
  • Familiarity with multilateral and bilateral initiatives and funding for REDD +, sustainable agriculture, etc;
  • Experience working with REDD + countries and / or Central African countries;
  • Experience in developing partnerships.
