Context
Aligned with the Letter of Intent signed between the Government of the Republic of Congo and CAFI, a Sustainable Land Use Project (PUDT) is planned, which will enable achievement of 22 of the 52 milestones marking the commitments made in this partnership, and to develop a Programme of Operational Investments in the agricultural and forestry sectors based on the results and land use planning guidelines set out in the Sustainable Land Use Plan. The second component of this Plan is a PUDT Investment Project, or PI- PUDT. The official name in Lingala, "Kolona pe Kobatela" or KOPEKOBA as an acronym, means "Cultivate and Protect".

Objectives
KOPEKOBA is designed to complement the Sustainable Land Use Plan, with the aim of implementing major national land development guidelines defined by the Plan on the ground.
Through KOPEKOBA, departments of agriculture and forestry, local authorities, the private sector and family farmers implement several priority commitments in the territories that were made by the Republic of Congo in the Letter of Intent with CAFI, in particular :
- the development of climate-smart and zero-deforestation agriculture
- the gradual replacement of wood-energy supplies from unregulated harvesting by a regulated value chain based on renewable production
- sustainable management of peatlands and forests, preserving High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests
The overall objective is to carry out pilot investments designed to contribute to the diversification of the national economy and the sustainable development of rural areas. To this end, the project aims to :
- select pilot territories in which territorial management plans will be implemented
- support the structuring of resilient agricultural value chains in savannah and forest areas
- make innovative investments in sustainable agriculture
The project also plans to support research and development, as well as the dissemination of good agricultural practices, by supporting the local administration through the rehabilitation of the services it provides and the development of new services, through centres for innovation in sustainable agriculture and a network of farms and protected agricultural zones (ZAP).
To this end, KOPEKOBA plans to build the capacities of state and non-state players.
